Yetminster Sports
19 Sept 2026
A drizzly afternoon at Dowlish Wake set the stage for an entertaining clash against Yetminster Sports, played in fantastic spirits by both sides.
Yetminster set the tone early, relentlessly pressing down the right flank. The early dominance paid off when Isaac sliced inside, driving a powerful strike past the inexperienced home goalkeeper to break the deadlock. Sports doubled their lead shortly after when Hayden drew a foul in the box following a sharp attacking sequence down the left. Rossy stepped up to the spot and calmly converted the penalty.
The first half was marred by a blow for Yetminster when key centre back Tandy suffered a knee injury just before the break, which looks set to keep him sidelined for a few weeks. Weβd like to thank the Dowlish & Donyatt players and management for the fantastic sporting behaviour shown during the incident. They helped Tandy from the pitch and, importantly, checked in on him afterwards to make sure he was okay. This is exactly what grassroots football should be about. Respect. π
However, the blow was softened by the long-awaited return of Dan Stepney, who stepped straight into the heart of the defense and delivered an outstanding performance. Just before the whistle, Yetminster won a free kick on the edge of the box, and Isaac struck again to send Sports into half-time with a comfortable 3-0 cushion.
Dowlish Wake fought back in a more physical second half, pulling one back from a corner after leaving a man unmarked for a free header. Despite the push, Yetminster's younger squad members shone bright, holding up play brilliantly and continuously unsettling the Dowlish defense.
The victory was sealed late in the half when Sports earned another free kick just outside the area. Isaac capped off a stellar performance by striking the ball neatly into the top left corner to complete his hat-trick and put the game to bed.
It was a fantastic team display to secure another three points on the board. Highlighted by mature performances from the younger players, though the teamβs thoughts remain with Tandy for a speedy recovery from a tough injury. Special thanks to Ruby for giving up her brand new dryrobe to keep Tandy warm ππ«Άπ»
