Yetminster Sports 3 - 2 Ilminster Town A♥️🩵

Today we welcomed Ilminster A to Brierley hay to play against us in the league. Our first ever game as a club was against Ilminster so the lads knew from the start that this game would show how much we have improved as a club over the past few months.

The game started with Sports playing some good flowing football and defending really well with Ben Siddell and Jack Bateman working together keeping the Ilminster striker at bay. Sports scored the first goal with Ross Walters passing the ball to Tom Board who dribbled forwards before then playing Peter Goodfellow through on goal who smashed the ball bottom left. Sports kept the pressure up winning a corner which was whipped in by Joe Watkins finding Peter Goodfellow’s head making it 2-0. Ilminster kept fighting winning a free kick which allowed them to score before the end of the first half.

In the second half it was a fast paced battle from the go. Ilminster showed some great football playing it down the wing before crossing it in and scoring a header. The rest of the half was very tough for both teams. Sports kept the ball moving with Pete Ellingham passing to Tom Board who did a lovely pass and move with new signing Blaine Lawrence. Tom Board then drove with the ball forward passing the ball through to Ross Walters who took a touch and smashed a shot into the keeper which deflected out and unfortunately back into the net by the Ilminster defender. Sports kept their defensive skills up towards the end of the game along with some cracking saves throughout both halves by Josh L to finalise the win.

Overall this was a great game for Sports as it has certainly shown our improvement⚽️
